用TED talk 學英語的正確姿勢

這段時間迷上了TED talk，最初的目的是想利用TED talk練習聽力，後來在不斷的練習過程中，發現如果僅僅是利用TED talk練習聽力，未免有些暴殄天物。事實上通過一段時間的學習，我發現如果方法得當，能將一篇TED talk充分利用，那麼會從多個層面為英語的學習帶來極大助益。今天我就對TED talk學習的一些經驗進行一個簡單的總結。

工欲善其事必先利其器。首先，要找到一篇合適的材料。材料的來源，建議在TED talk的官網上找，網址是：https://www.ted.com/。目前TED沒有被牆，所以也用不著翻牆，而且材料也非常的優質，提供MP4、MP3和演講稿（中英文都有）的免費下載，對了還可以為MP4選擇字幕，我的建議是把演講稿、MP3和英文字幕的MP4都下載下來。

在內容選擇上，可以結合自己的興趣，專業方向等進行選擇。另一個方面是演講者的身份，個人的建議的是盡量選擇English Native Speaker，一是因為口音的關系，一些地區的非母語演講者的talk想要聽懂真的不是一件很容易的事情；二是不利於我們模仿跟讀；三是在一些語法上，他們的用法可能不是很地道。因此，建議大家盡量避免選擇非母語演講者。當然啦，練習之前可以試聽一下，有些演講者雖然不是Native Speaker，但是口音還是相當地道的。最後一個方面是演講的時間長度，建議最好在10~15分鍾左右，這樣有利於我們集中一段時間反復練習。

找到合適的材料後，就可以開始練習了，我把練習分為三個階段：

第一個階段是聽懂，分為四個步驟：
第一步是聽大意。首先我們把它完整的聽一遍，聽完之後試著闡述一下這篇演講說了些什麼：演講的主題是什麼；圍繞這個主題，演講者的觀點是什麼；演講者用了什麼例子（正面或反面）去佐證自己的觀點。第一次建議大家對著MP4視頻看（字幕遮一下），因為演講者們通常都有PPT，可以幫助我們更好的融入演講環境。

第二步是對照字幕再聽一遍。看看在字幕的幫助下，能不能比聽第一遍時更好地理解演講，注意過程中不要停下來看字幕，不能懂就過，千萬不要停。

第三步是標記盲區。接下來就可以逐句逐詞地過了。具體做法是，拿出准備好的演講稿，開始逐句聽，對於聽不懂的地方，可以反復多次。注意，只要能聽懂，就不要去看講稿。碰到反復幾次都聽不懂的地方，首先在講稿中把這部分標記出來，然後看一看是什麼原因導致無法聽懂，詞彙量問題（生詞或不熟悉的詞）？語法問題？讀法問題（斷句，發音，連讀等）？把這些分別標記出來。

第四步是針對沒聽明白的地方查單詞，查語法，學習讀法。找個小本子或者在手機上，把查到的單詞記錄下來，尤其是在演講中對應的句子要一並記錄下來，這樣方便隨時復習，另一方面，有了演講語境，可以更好地將單詞吸收掌握，效果遠勝單純地背單詞！

第二個階段是提煉，分為三個方面：
一是金句短語的學習。每一篇TED talk幾乎都會有那麼幾個令人拍案叫絕的句子，把這些句子摘錄出來，沒事經常看看，可以讓我們的寫作或是演講表達都更上一層樓。除了金句，還有一些很棒的小短語，注意區分使用環境，有些是在口語中經常使用，而有一些則可以用在書面寫作中。

二是跟讀練習。利用TED talk練習口語的關鍵就在於此——跟讀。影子跟讀法大家應該都聽說過，盡量完美地模仿演講：模仿發音，模仿斷句，模仿語氣音調的變化。開始時可以對著講稿跟讀，進而可以撇下講稿進行跟讀，最後可以自己對著講稿來一遍，並且一定要錄音，聽一下自己和演講者的差別在哪裡並加以改正。

第三是英文含義的get練習。什麼意思？通常情況下，我們看到一句英文，我們的大腦會不自覺地把它處理成中文，這樣就有一個「英文——>中文」的轉化過程。那麼我們就要訓練自己「見英文而解其義」的能力，把英文向中文轉化的這個環節消除掉。方法就是反復聽，不斷加強對句子和語法的熟悉。」This is an apple」 這樣的句子相信大家看見就知道什麼意思，那麼在這個練習中就要努力做到對每一個句子都能達到程度的熟悉。

最後一個階段是精煉，主要做三個方面工作。
第一是復述練習。其實這也是練習口語的一個重要方面，我們往往會把「口語好」和「發音好」等同起來，事實上，發音只是口語的一個方面，如果一個人發音很地道，但是不會組織邏輯，遣詞造句，那麼他的口語也是不合格的。所以復述就是解決這個問題，聽一段，就用自己的話把大意復述一遍，看看一個意思，自己的表達和演講者的表達有什麼差異。

第二是分析演講技巧。重點關注一下觀眾情緒變化的地方，尤其是那些觀眾鬨堂大笑，一片驚嘆或是掌聲雷動的地方，看看演講者是如何成功調動觀眾情緒的。

第三是分析演講邏輯。研究一下演講者是如何在十幾分鍾時間里，把一個觀點完美地傳達給觀眾的。重點關注以下幾個方面：如何開場；話題切入；觀點的拋出和佐證；定論收場。通過分析，可以簡單地梳理出一個演講模型，在我們日後的寫作演講中就可以加以使用。

最後，跟大家說點小TIP。

一是掃生詞之前不要糾結於個別沒聽懂的單詞，試著去掌握一段話的大意更加重要；

二是堅持練習，學會從一次又一次練習中不斷找到具體的問題，學會總結一點一滴的進步和收獲；

三是享受TED talk吧，想像自己是現場的一名native speaker跟著演講者的思路，讓自己的感情和現場觀眾一起起伏變化，想像自己是一位TED talker給出一個精彩絕倫的演講，讓你的聽眾們為你喝彩歡呼！

Most do not have to go to work or school. So they visit family and friends. Attend church services. Share a holiday meal. Or watch new years parades on television. Two of the most famous parades are the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. Both have existed for many years.

Americans also watch football on television on New Years Day. Most years, university teams play in special holiday games.

But that』s the price people have to pay for destroying in the ecology balance. People shouldn』t be short-sighted. Protecting the environment is everyone』s task.

As you know, there are four kinds of pollution. They are air pollution, water pollution, waste pollution and noise pollution. But what can we do to solve the pollution? I think, firstly, we can make cars that don』t pollute the environment. We can ask companies to use modern clean technology.

In some big cities, we can limit the number of cars. Secondly, we can try to use lewater and make sure that we do not pollute the water. We can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers.

First. Status. Yesterday, I went to XuJiaHui. I start my route at 1:00pm. When I arrived home, it was 8:00pm. I only use nearly 3 hours on shopping. That means I almost waste 4 hours on the way. That is the Traffic Jams Status in Shanghai.

Second. Reasons. I found that the traffic management is the most serious problem in the traffic system. In some important crossroads, there are no enough traffic police to do the traffic grooming. It』s irrational. We paid so much taxes, but we cannot comfort what we should get. For example, on the overhead, two cars had made a traffic accident. This leaded the traffic jams. We had not see the traffic police from start to end. It took me nearly 10 minutes on the overhead. It was happened yesterday.

Third. To solve it. What I can advice is just add more traffic polices in the important crossroads. It』s the most useful way to solve the traffic jams. Because yesterday when we nearly went out the overhead, the speed was increased obviously. We found several traffic polices in the crossroad. They commanded cars and then the traffic went well.

That brings me to the end of my presentation. Let me just run over the key points again. Traffic jams was made by several resources. To solve it, we can depend on the traffic police. But for ourselves, to drive more carefully, more reasonably, maybe is another way to decrease the traffic jams.

The over-proction and over-use of transportation vehicles and electricity has contributed to the Global Warming and caused myriads of species to disappear from the face of the earth e to home-loss and temperature change. We have brought wonders to the world, but have also destroyed miracles of nature. We are concerned about our nutritional intake and exercise all the time, so why shouldn't we care about the conditions of our living planet as well?

Time is ticking on. We shouldn't put off the whole "save the environment" affair any longer. Please, do what feels right in our hearts, even though it is only a tiny matter. Save up resources, promote the recycling and reusing of procts, and always remember to take some time off going into the woods and breathe in the sweetness in the air. When I was fifteen, I announced to my English class that I was going to write and illustrate my own books. Half the students sneered, the rest nearly fell out of their chairs laughing. 「Don’t be silly, only geniuses can become writers,」 the English teacher said smugly, 「And you are getting a D this semester.」 I was so humiliated I burst into tears.

That night I wrote a short sad poem about broken dreams and mailed it to the Capri’s Weekly newspaper. To my astonishment, they published it and sent me two dollars. I was a published and paid writer. I showed my teacher and fellow students. They laughed. 「Just plain mb luck,」 the teacher said. I tasted success. I’d sold the first thing I’d ever written. That was more than any of them had done and if it was just mb luck, that was fine with me.

During the next two years I sold dozens of poems, letters, jokes and recipes. By the time I graated from high school, with a C minus average, I had scrapbooks filled with my published work. I never mentioned my writing to my teachers, friends or my family again. They were dream killers and if people must choose between their friends and their dreams, they must always choose their dreams.

I had four children at the time, and the oldest was only four. While the children napped, I typed on my ancient typewriter. I wrote what I felt. It took nine months, just like a baby. I chose a publisher at random and put the manuscript in an empty Pampers diapers package, the only box I could find. I’d never heard of manuscript boxes. The letter I enclosed read, 「I wrote this book myself, I hope you like it. I also do the illustrations. Chapter six and twelve are my favourites. Thank you.」 I tied a string around the diaper box and mailed it without a self addressed stamped envelope and without making a of the manuscript.

A month later I received a contract, an advance on royalties, and a request to start working on another book. Crying Wind, the title of my book, became a best seller, was translated into fifteen languages and Braille and sold worldwide. I appeared on TV talk shows ring the day and changed diapers at night. I traveled from New York to California and Canada on promotional tours. My first book also became required reading in native American schools in Canada.

By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage.

The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success", to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.

If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.

The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he or she achieve success. That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he has contributed greatly to the field of science.

I myself, a rather shy person by nature who easily suffer from stage fright, had to pluck up great courage to take part in a speech contest like this. I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not entering the university level contest.But I chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here I am. If I come out first, it will be a great success for me. If I come out last-I hope this will not be the case-but if I come out last, I will not call my attempt a failure, but will also celebrate it as a true success, because part of my goal is my own character training-to do more assertive, to be brave in face of difficulties. For me, it is a meaningful step forward, small as it is, in the long journey toward the final success in my life, because I have truly gained by participating.

Let us return to our handsome young prince and the 4-step definition of success. You my have noticed that the usual worldly criteria of wealth, position and fame were not mentioned as part of the story, but rather, it emphasized the process of overcoming difficulties. The ancient wisdom had already defined the meaning of success, and this is my definition, too.

正常人不費力氣做成的事對於一個殘疾人來說也許相當困難。獲得了同正常人一樣的能力，這個殘疾人就獲得了成功。這便是我們為什麼崇敬史蒂芬·霍金的原因—雖然行動不便，受到了輪椅的限制，他依然為科學界作出了巨大的貢獻。

My definition of success

Today I am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. What is success? It is what everyone is longing for.Sometimes success would be rather simple. Winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now I am
standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.

However, as a person』s whole life is concerned, success becomes very
complicated. Is fortune success? Is fame success? Is high social status success? No, I don』t think so. I believe success is the realization of people』
s hopes and ideals.Nowadays, in the modern society there are many people
who are regarded as the successful. And the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. So most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. But the problem is wether it is real success. We all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. If we keep chasing them, where is the end? What will satisfy us at last? Therefore, we can see, to get the real Success we must need something inside, which is the realization of
people』 hopes and ideals.

Different people have different ideas about success; cause people』s hopes and ideas vary from one another. But I am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility.
