下載 WinKawaks 後解開壓縮包，在 WinKawaks 的主目錄下會有一些文件夾，其中最需要知道的是1個文件夾：

roms 模擬器默認的ROM存放目錄，一般你不需要改。roms 文件夾里還有3個文件夾，分別是：cps1、cps2、neogeo，下載好的游戲roms直接放到roms文件夾下的相應文件夾里就可以，游戲roms不能改名稱，否則失效。(注意：在www.softii.com 下載的街機游戲roms需要先解壓縮一次，再把解壓縮出來的那個zip格式的壓縮文件剪切到模擬器的文件夾里)

下面介紹如何使用 WinKawaks 模擬器:

有時第一次運行 WinKawaks 時，會提示你自動配置一些設置以達到優化的作用，其實他自動配置效果並不是太好，最主要的是「視頻」的「選擇視頻過濾器」配置，你最好象下圖那樣，選擇「普通」，達到的效果才是比較好的。

一般說來模擬器默認的按鍵設置未必符合自己的習慣，需要自己重新設置下，但是 WinKawaks 是在運行游戲時設置才可以生效，我們就點「文件」「載入游戲」運行游戲吧，如下圖：

最好選中紅框里的「僅存在的」，意思是沒有的游戲就不會顯示在游戲列表裡。這時要運行哪個游戲，就雙擊那個游戲的名稱即可。

進入游戲後，我們就可以進行按鍵設置了，如圖：

設置過按鍵後，一定要記得保存為默認配置，因為這樣下次運行其他游戲時，就不需要再設置按鍵了。但要注意的是：CPS和NeoGeo的游戲按鍵設置是分開的，也就是說CPS游戲按鍵保存為默認只對CPS游戲管用，NeoGeo 的游戲還需要運行個NeoGeo的游戲，再設置、再保存為默認。

完成以上設置，就可以玩游戲了。游戲玩完了，想退出時，很多新手會感覺模擬器關不掉。其實這時，按下「回車」先暫停游戲，然後模擬器就好關了。
