用TED talk 学英语的正确姿势

这段时间迷上了TED talk，最初的目的是想利用TED talk练习听力，后来在不断的练习过程中，发现如果仅仅是利用TED talk练习听力，未免有些暴殄天物。事实上通过一段时间的学习，我发现如果方法得当，能将一篇TED talk充分利用，那么会从多个层面为英语的学习带来极大助益。今天我就对TED talk学习的一些经验进行一个简单的总结。

工欲善其事必先利其器。首先，要找到一篇合适的材料。材料的来源，建议在TED talk的官网上找，网址是：https://www.ted.com/。目前TED没有被墙，所以也用不着翻墙，而且材料也非常的优质，提供MP4、MP3和演讲稿（中英文都有）的免费下载，对了还可以为MP4选择字幕，我的建议是把演讲稿、MP3和英文字幕的MP4都下载下来。

在内容选择上，可以结合自己的兴趣，专业方向等进行选择。另一个方面是演讲者的身份，个人的建议的是尽量选择English Native Speaker，一是因为口音的关系，一些地区的非母语演讲者的talk想要听懂真的不是一件很容易的事情；二是不利于我们模仿跟读；三是在一些语法上，他们的用法可能不是很地道。因此，建议大家尽量避免选择非母语演讲者。当然啦，练习之前可以试听一下，有些演讲者虽然不是Native Speaker，但是口音还是相当地道的。最后一个方面是演讲的时间长度，建议最好在10~15分钟左右，这样有利于我们集中一段时间反复练习。

找到合适的材料后，就可以开始练习了，我把练习分为三个阶段：

第一个阶段是听懂，分为四个步骤：
第一步是听大意。首先我们把它完整的听一遍，听完之后试着阐述一下这篇演讲说了些什么：演讲的主题是什么；围绕这个主题，演讲者的观点是什么；演讲者用了什么例子（正面或反面）去佐证自己的观点。第一次建议大家对着MP4视频看（字幕遮一下），因为演讲者们通常都有PPT，可以帮助我们更好的融入演讲环境。

第二步是对照字幕再听一遍。看看在字幕的帮助下，能不能比听第一遍时更好地理解演讲，注意过程中不要停下来看字幕，不能懂就过，千万不要停。

第三步是标记盲区。接下来就可以逐句逐词地过了。具体做法是，拿出准备好的演讲稿，开始逐句听，对于听不懂的地方，可以反复多次。注意，只要能听懂，就不要去看讲稿。碰到反复几次都听不懂的地方，首先在讲稿中把这部分标记出来，然后看一看是什么原因导致无法听懂，词汇量问题（生词或不熟悉的词）？语法问题？读法问题（断句，发音，连读等）？把这些分别标记出来。

第四步是针对没听明白的地方查单词，查语法，学习读法。找个小本子或者在手机上，把查到的单词记录下来，尤其是在演讲中对应的句子要一并记录下来，这样方便随时复习，另一方面，有了演讲语境，可以更好地将单词吸收掌握，效果远胜单纯地背单词！

第二个阶段是提炼，分为三个方面：
一是金句短语的学习。每一篇TED talk几乎都会有那么几个令人拍案叫绝的句子，把这些句子摘录出来，没事经常看看，可以让我们的写作或是演讲表达都更上一层楼。除了金句，还有一些很棒的小短语，注意区分使用环境，有些是在口语中经常使用，而有一些则可以用在书面写作中。

二是跟读练习。利用TED talk练习口语的关键就在于此——跟读。影子跟读法大家应该都听说过，尽量完美地模仿演讲：模仿发音，模仿断句，模仿语气音调的变化。开始时可以对着讲稿跟读，进而可以撇下讲稿进行跟读，最后可以自己对着讲稿来一遍，并且一定要录音，听一下自己和演讲者的差别在哪里并加以改正。

第三是英文含义的get练习。什么意思？通常情况下，我们看到一句英文，我们的大脑会不自觉地把它处理成中文，这样就有一个“英文——>中文”的转化过程。那么我们就要训练自己“见英文而解其义”的能力，把英文向中文转化的这个环节消除掉。方法就是反复听，不断加强对句子和语法的熟悉。”This is an apple” 这样的句子相信大家看见就知道什么意思，那么在这个练习中就要努力做到对每一个句子都能达到程度的熟悉。

最后一个阶段是精炼，主要做三个方面工作。
第一是复述练习。其实这也是练习口语的一个重要方面，我们往往会把“口语好”和“发音好”等同起来，事实上，发音只是口语的一个方面，如果一个人发音很地道，但是不会组织逻辑，遣词造句，那么他的口语也是不合格的。所以复述就是解决这个问题，听一段，就用自己的话把大意复述一遍，看看一个意思，自己的表达和演讲者的表达有什么差异。

第二是分析演讲技巧。重点关注一下观众情绪变化的地方，尤其是那些观众哄堂大笑，一片惊叹或是掌声雷动的地方，看看演讲者是如何成功调动观众情绪的。

第三是分析演讲逻辑。研究一下演讲者是如何在十几分钟时间里，把一个观点完美地传达给观众的。重点关注以下几个方面：如何开场；话题切入；观点的抛出和佐证；定论收场。通过分析，可以简单地梳理出一个演讲模型，在我们日后的写作演讲中就可以加以使用。

最后，跟大家说点小TIP。

一是扫生词之前不要纠结于个别没听懂的单词，试着去掌握一段话的大意更加重要；

二是坚持练习，学会从一次又一次练习中不断找到具体的问题，学会总结一点一滴的进步和收获；

三是享受TED talk吧，想象自己是现场的一名native speaker跟着演讲者的思路，让自己的感情和现场观众一起起伏变化，想象自己是一位TED talker给出一个精彩绝伦的演讲，让你的听众们为你喝彩欢呼！

Noise-making is another ancient custom at the new year. The noise is considered necessary to chase away the evil spirits of the old year. People around the world do different things to make a lot of noise. They may hit sticks together. Or beat on drums. Or blow horns. Or explode fireworks.

Americans celebrate the New Year in many ways.

Most do not have to go to work or school. So they visit family and friends. Attend church services. Share a holiday meal. Or watch new years parades on television. Two of the most famous parades are the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. Both have existed for many years.

Americans also watch football on television on New Years Day. Most years, university teams play in special holiday games.

For those who have been busy at work or school, New Years may be a day of rest. They spend the time thinking about, and preparing for, the demands of the new year.

in our life, a lot of rubbish , such as waste paper, plastic bottles ,batteries and so on , is proced every day . after we learnt the passage make our environment more beautiful , we found a lot of rubbish thrown into stbins could be recycled in fact ring our discussion. so we thought it would be better if we could classify rubbish . we told our idea to our teacher and he supported us very much . we became volunteers to classify rubbish . firstly we got three big boxes and put them in a corner of our classroom . one is for waste paper , one for plastics and coke cans and the other is for batteries . with teacher's help ,soon all the students took part in the activity of classifying rubbish .in a month , we collected three boxes of paper , a box of batteries and a box of plastics and coke cans .we sold them for 28 yuan and bought some young trees with the money . we planted the trees around our school . we were all spoken highly of by our school principals. now we keep on the job and are all proud of improving environment .

This will cause negative effects on them.

One day, that man wanted to enlarge his house, so he cut down all the trees. Then the autumn came without the protection. The strong wind blew the roof of the house into the sky. The whole house was gone with the wind. What a pity!

But that’s the price people have to pay for destroying in the ecology balance. People shouldn’t be short-sighted. Protecting the environment is everyone’s task.

As you know, there are four kinds of pollution. They are air pollution, water pollution, waste pollution and noise pollution. But what can we do to solve the pollution? I think, firstly, we can make cars that don’t pollute the environment. We can ask companies to use modern clean technology.

In some big cities, we can limit the number of cars. Secondly, we can try to use lewater and make sure that we do not pollute the water. We can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers.

Thirdly, we should not throw rubbish in parks and cities. We can pick up rubbish if we see it. We can put more rubbish bins in our parks and cities. Fourthly, we can live far from the noise and make the laws to limit the noise.

First. Status. Yesterday, I went to XuJiaHui. I start my route at 1:00pm. When I arrived home, it was 8:00pm. I only use nearly 3 hours on shopping. That means I almost waste 4 hours on the way. That is the Traffic Jams Status in Shanghai.

Second. Reasons. I found that the traffic management is the most serious problem in the traffic system. In some important crossroads, there are no enough traffic police to do the traffic grooming. It’s irrational. We paid so much taxes, but we cannot comfort what we should get. For example, on the overhead, two cars had made a traffic accident. This leaded the traffic jams. We had not see the traffic police from start to end. It took me nearly 10 minutes on the overhead. It was happened yesterday.

Third. To solve it. What I can advice is just add more traffic polices in the important crossroads. It’s the most useful way to solve the traffic jams. Because yesterday when we nearly went out the overhead, the speed was increased obviously. We found several traffic polices in the crossroad. They commanded cars and then the traffic went well.

That brings me to the end of my presentation. Let me just run over the key points again. Traffic jams was made by several resources. To solve it, we can depend on the traffic police. But for ourselves, to drive more carefully, more reasonably, maybe is another way to decrease the traffic jams.

The over-proction and over-use of transportation vehicles and electricity has contributed to the Global Warming and caused myriads of species to disappear from the face of the earth e to home-loss and temperature change. We have brought wonders to the world, but have also destroyed miracles of nature. We are concerned about our nutritional intake and exercise all the time, so why shouldn't we care about the conditions of our living planet as well?

Time is ticking on. We shouldn't put off the whole "save the environment" affair any longer. Please, do what feels right in our hearts, even though it is only a tiny matter. Save up resources, promote the recycling and reusing of procts, and always remember to take some time off going into the woods and breathe in the sweetness in the air. When I was fifteen, I announced to my English class that I was going to write and illustrate my own books. Half the students sneered, the rest nearly fell out of their chairs laughing. “Don’t be silly, only geniuses can become writers,” the English teacher said smugly, “And you are getting a D this semester.” I was so humiliated I burst into tears.

That night I wrote a short sad poem about broken dreams and mailed it to the Capri’s Weekly newspaper. To my astonishment, they published it and sent me two dollars. I was a published and paid writer. I showed my teacher and fellow students. They laughed. “Just plain mb luck,” the teacher said. I tasted success. I’d sold the first thing I’d ever written. That was more than any of them had done and if it was just mb luck, that was fine with me.

During the next two years I sold dozens of poems, letters, jokes and recipes. By the time I graated from high school, with a C minus average, I had scrapbooks filled with my published work. I never mentioned my writing to my teachers, friends or my family again. They were dream killers and if people must choose between their friends and their dreams, they must always choose their dreams.

I had four children at the time, and the oldest was only four. While the children napped, I typed on my ancient typewriter. I wrote what I felt. It took nine months, just like a baby. I chose a publisher at random and put the manuscript in an empty Pampers diapers package, the only box I could find. I’d never heard of manuscript boxes. The letter I enclosed read, “I wrote this book myself, I hope you like it. I also do the illustrations. Chapter six and twelve are my favourites. Thank you.” I tied a string around the diaper box and mailed it without a self addressed stamped envelope and without making a of the manuscript.

A month later I received a contract, an advance on royalties, and a request to start working on another book. Crying Wind, the title of my book, became a best seller, was translated into fifteen languages and Braille and sold worldwide. I appeared on TV talk shows ring the day and changed diapers at night. I traveled from New York to California and Canada on promotional tours. My first book also became required reading in native American schools in Canada.

3 My Definition of Success

“Once upon a time， there was a king who had a daughter as beautiful as a blooming rose. To all the suitors who came to the king's palace to ask for the hand of the princess, the old king assigned three tasks to be accomplished, each next to impossible. The three tasks may be different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess's hand triumphantly.
And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line "And they live happily every after."

Why aren't we tired of something so fanciful, so unrealistic, and, I would say, so unimaginative? How can a story like that enre generations of repetition`? Because, I think, it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage.

The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success", to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.

If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. I myself, a rather shy person by nature who easily suffer from stage fright, had to pluck up great courage to take part in a speech contest like this. I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not entering the university level contest.But I chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here I am. If I come out first, it will be a great success for me. If I come out last-I hope this will not be the case-but if I come out last, I will not call my attempt a failure, but will also celebrate it as a true success, because part of my goal is my own character training-to do more assertive, to be brave in face of difficulties. For me, it is a meaningful step forward, small as it is, in the long journey toward the final success in my life, because I have truly gained by participating.

Let us return to our handsome young prince and the 4-step definition of success. You my have noticed that the usual worldly criteria of wealth, position and fame were not mentioned as part of the story, but rather, it emphasized the process of overcoming difficulties. The ancient wisdom had already defined the meaning of success, and this is my definition, too.

正常人不费力气做成的事对于一个残疾人来说也许相当困难。获得了同正常人一样的能力，这个残疾人就获得了成功。这便是我们为什么崇敬史蒂芬·霍金的原因—虽然行动不便，受到了轮椅的限制，他依然为科学界作出了巨大的贡献。
就我自己而言，生性羞涩，容易怯场，不得不鼓起非常大的勇气来参加此次的演讲比赛。我完全可以待在一边，不参加大学级别的比赛，而落得轻松自在。可是，我还是选择了接受这一挑战来面对困难。现在我来了，如果我能够得第一的话.这对我来说就是巨大的成功。如果，我是最后一名—我希望情况不是这样—但如果我真的是最后一名，我也不会认为这次的尝试是一次失败，反而我要把它当作一次真正的成功来庆贺，因为我一部分的目标是对自己性格的锻炼—更加坚强、勇敢地面对困难。对我来说，这标志着我在通向成功人生的漫漫征途中又向前迈进了一步，尽管是很小的一步，但是我确实通过参与真正地获得了收益。

My definition of success

Today I am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. What is success? It is what everyone is longing for.Sometimes success would be rather simple. Winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now I am
standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.

However, as a person’s whole life is concerned, success becomes very
complicated. Is fortune success? Is fame success? Is high social status success? No, I don’t think so. I believe success is the realization of people’
s hopes and ideals.Nowadays, in the modern society there are many people
who are regarded as the successful. And the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. So most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. But the problem is wether it is real success. We all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. If we keep chasing them, where is the end? What will satisfy us at last? Therefore, we can see, to get the real Success we must need something inside, which is the realization of
people’ hopes and ideals.

Different people have different ideas about success; cause people’s hopes and ideas vary from one another. But I am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. These are the best treasures. So now I am very proud that I have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. It is my success, cause I raise up to challenge my hope.

What is success? Everyone has his own interpretation as I do. But I am sure
